12 Pregnancy Hacks to Help You Rock Your Baby Bump

These days it seems like you can find a “hack” to make just about anything in life a little easier. Well, HERE is your compilation of Pregnancy Hacks to Help YOU Rock Your Baby Bump!

1. Stay hydrated with lemony ice cubes
Your Midwife or OB asks you at every appointment if you’re drinking enough water each day. Try cutting up some lemon slices – or lime or other citrus of choice – and adding them to your ice cube tray! Then, drop some cubes in your water bottle throughout the day to add a little tropical excitement to those Mundane Eight (glasses of water that is!) BONUS: lemon water may help those nausea-blues and plenty of fluids will help prevent common pregnancy ailments like constipation and UTIs.

2. DIY Magnesium lotion to help with cramps, nausea, and potentially prevent stretch marks
Uhh… did I just read that correctly? One, single, lotion can help with muscle cramps, nausea, AND stretch marks?! I’m IN! TRY THIS: it’s my favorite DIY recipe! Or, if you’re not the DIY-type, buy it HERE! BONUS: Magnesium can also aid pregnancy-related insomnia and constipation!

3. Throw out the chairs and sit on a giant exercise ball instead
We all know sitting is bad; especially if you work in an office all day. Besides, it’s way more fun to bounce around on a giant ball, anyway! BONUS: sitting on an exercise ball comforts and strengthens your lower back, supports a symmetrical pelvis, and gently opens the pelvis. How? Sit so that your feet are flat and wide, you want your feet and the center of the ball to form a tripod when you sit down on it. The ball should be firm and large enough so that your hips are equal to or slightly higher than your knees.

4. Schedule regular appointments with your chiropractor to keep everything in alignment and prevent those terrible hip and lower back pains
You read that right! Find a Chiropractor near you and let them work MAGIC on your achy hips! After about 20 weeks, I saw my Chiropractor about as often as I saw my Midwife and I can not say enough about the wonders of Chiropractic during pregnancy! I could hobble IN to the office and after a gentle adjustment, I was nearly skipping out! BONUS: A chiropractic adjustment during pregnancy and early labor can also help with optimal positioning of baby for birth too!

5. Pile up the pillows for bedtime comfort
While this is probably one of MY favorite pregnancy hacks, it is definitely my husband’s LEAST favorite. It’s a good thing we have a king sized bed… because, otherwise there wouldn’t be much room for him! HA! But seriously. There will come a time in your pregnancy when getting comfortable is a ridiculous challenge. Check out THIS pregnancy pillow and THIS ONE! Or DIY with all the pillows in your house! I have found that pillows of various sizes have their own benefits. Experiment! See what works best for you! And then be ready to experiment again and again as your belly continues to grow. <3

6. Use a pool floaty when you just NEED to lay on your tummy
I am usually a tummy-sleeper so it’s torture for me when I’m pregnant and can’t lay belly down. What I would give to be able to JUST LAY ON MY STOMACH at the end of my pregnancies! Relieve a little back and hip tension and just chill out with a Pool Floaty!

7. Forget maternity clothes
Why spend the extra money on clothes you’ll only wear for a few months when you can invest in some super comfy, wear-anytime clothes instead! Opt for leggings, maxi dresses, and maxi skirts instead! BONUS: You’ll feel like a Goddess in your flowy maxi dress and big, round, baby bump.

8. Use a hair tie to extend the waist on your favorite pants or shorts
Ditch the funny-feeling, itchy, over-the-belly maternity pants! AND save money! Wear your favorite pants or shorts as long as you can by using a hair tie to hold them up even when they don’t button any longer!

9. Get taped up for extra specific support
Ask your Chiropractor about Kinesiology tape at your next appointment! Results of THIS STUDY indicate that Kinesio taping can be used with great results as a complementary treatment method to achieve effective control of pregnancy-related low back pain. 10. Practice yoga to stay limber and active
We all know that it’s important to stay active when pregnant; the tricky part is finding an activity that can be maintained throughout all three trimesters! If you’re not a Yogi already, give it a try. 11. Create a code word with your partner to help communicate when you’ve reached your emotional max
Pregnancy can sometimes send you on an emotional rollercoaster. One minute you’re ordering steak and grilled veggies, the next you’re crying in the middle of the restaurant because you don’t want to eat the beautiful steak and veggies that your server just delivered… Oh. That’s just me? Psh. If you’re anything like me, sometimes you just need to cue in your partner, and FAST! Because the waterworks are on their way! Try a simple code word. We use a color coded system: Code Orange = it’s getting hairy, we should leave soon; Code Red: ABORT! ABORT! It’s TIME TO GO! BONUS: this code system works in all kinds of situations outside of pregnancy too! 😉

12. Pamper yourself!
Get a mani/pedi or a prenatal massage! Book an appointment at the hair salon! Spend a weekend at the beach! Get primped and pretty and pose for a majestic maternity photo shoot! PAMPER YOURSELF NOW! Because as soon as that sweet baby arrives, you won’t be thinking about YOU anymore, you’ll be pouring your love and energies into that babe. <3 BONUS: some extra relaxation and self care will help you feel a little more “You” when your body might be feeling Oh, So, Not.
